At Hipster Whale, we're passionate about creating bright and funny arcade action games that appeal to broad audiences—games that players will continue to enjoy for years to come! Our team is seeking an experienced Community Manager to join our marketing team and bring joy to our Crossy Road communities.

 

Overview

In this position, you will manage and moderate our community spaces, drive engagement, and foster growth across key social platforms including Discord, TikTok, and YouTube. Using your outstanding communication skills, you’ll connect directly with our audiences, ensuring their voices are heard, while relaying insights and feedback back to our internal teams. You will have a grasp on analytics and reporting and know how to interpret metrics to present them as insights. There will be opportunities to create fun content for our channels during busy periods, however, community engagement is the focus of this role.

This is a full-time flexible on-going position based at our studio in Melbourne, Australia. We may consider part-time hours for the right candidate, and you must have a suitable visa allowing them to work in Australia. Our team currently works hybridly, with a minimum of two days per week in the office (Mondays and Thursdays) and the option to work remotely from home on other days. We support individual flexibility arrangements and will accommodate requests wherever possible.

Responsibilities

  • Drive community engagement activities across our channels with a focus on Discord, YouTube and TikTok

  • Manage our online Crossy Road brand community and execute channel strategies set by the marketing team

  • Engage and respond with our audiences directly through replies, chatting and social listening

  • Scheduling, copywriting and management of social calendar

  • Monitor campaign and channel performance and present results and insights to the marketing team

  • Stay on top of algorithmic and content trends across our focus channels

  • Generate content ideas and collaborate with the marketing and art teams to bring them to life in our community spaces

  • Create asset briefs for our artists to align with content plans

  • Coordinate with the marketing team to sync up with over all campaign activities

  • Interact with the customer service team and moderation team to provide community management guidance

 

Requirements

  • Amazing written and verbal communication skills

  • 4+ years of community management and at least 1 year managing a community of 50K+ active participants

  • Demonstrated ability to manage community growth on at least one of the following channels: TikTok, YouTube or Discord

  • Experience working with a family brand or entertainment brand or comparable

  • Basic analytics knowledge and understanding of engagement metrics and reporting. You must be able to take social data from multiple channels and turn it into insights/ graphs and presentations that can be used by the marketing and business teams.

 

Bonus Points

  • Silly sense of humour with a cool head

  • Familiarity with the Adobe Suite, particularly Premiere Pro and Photoshop is highly regarded

  • Capture software such as OBS or experience capturing within Unity is highly regarded

  • Comfort being filmed / being in front of the camera

Critical Info

  • Base salary is 90k+ AUD (excluding super) depending on experience and skills

  • This is a full-time, on-going position

Our Recruitment Process

  3. Practical Challenge. At this stage, candidates will be invited to undertake a paid practical challenge which will resemble the type of work you would undertake in the role.

  4. Interview. You will be invited to meet the wider team in an interview. These meetings are split into parts, a general interview and a more technical one. We try to give applicants as much opportunity to understand the role and the studio along the journey as possible.
