Role Overview

As the Head of Community Engagement, you will be responsible for leading and scaling our community initiatives across multiple channels, to include our overall communications strategy.  You will shape the future of our developer engagement efforts, drive community-building initiatives, and manage our digital presence. Your focus will be to build and nurture a passionate and loyal community of app/web developers, AI enthusiasts, customers, and influencers who are as excited about our products and vision as we are. You will work closely with the product and engineering teams to create strategies that foster engagement, growth, and brand advocacy.
This is a senior leadership role where you will have the opportunity to shape the direction of our overall communications and community engagement strategy, from both a tactical and strategic standpoint. You will drive the growth of our community and advocate for their needs and feedback within the company, while also ensuring that our community is a vital part of our overall brand presence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Community Strategy Development
    Lead the development of a comprehensive community engagement strategy  with a strong focus on execution and measurable results, to help meet our growth objectives around product engagement, developer outreach and mission alignment. 

  • Community Growth & Management
    Identify and engage new community members across relevant platforms (online forums, social media, developer communities, events). Build, grow, and manage an engaged community of developers, early adopters, and industry leaders.

  • Communications Management
    Define and execute our overall communications strategy to build awareness and drive developer engagement. Manage the content, technical development and ongoing updates for the Mozilla.ai website and other key communication pathways.

  • Content & Communication
    Build and execute a content strategy, including blog posts, press releases, social media, and product updates, in collaboration with content and technical writers.

  • Events & Partnerships
    Plan, promote, and execute both virtual and in-person events, such as meetups, hackathons, webinars, and user conferences. Develop and nurture strategic partnerships with other companies, organizations, and thought leaders in the AI and tech ecosystem.

  • Advocacy & Support
    Serve as the voice of the community within the company, communicating insights and feedback to product, engineering, and leadership teams. Act as a liaison between the company and the community to foster trust and loyalty.

  • Data-Driven Insights
    Use analytics and feedback from community interactions to measure engagement, identify opportunities for growth, and improve community initiatives. Provide regular reports to leadership on community health, growth, and impact.

  • Team Leadership
    Build and manage a high-performing community engagement team. Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to team members and cross-functional collaborators to ensure alignment and success.

Qualifications

  • Experience

    • 8+ years of experience in open source community engagement, social media, public relations, or customer success, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

    • Experience in open source, AI or other relevant technology startups. 

  • Leadership

    • Proven experience building and leading high-performing teams. Able to inspire and motivate others to achieve ambitious goals.

  • Strategic Thinking

    • Demonstrated ability to create and implement strategic plans for community engagement and growth. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.

  • Communication Skills

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to engage a wide range of audiences, from technical developers to executive leaders.

  • Technical Savvy

    • Demonstrated understanding of AI technologies, developer workflows, and technical ecosystems. Hands-on experience working with developers or contributing to technical projects.

  • Analytical Mindset

    • Ability to analyze community engagement data and provide actionable insights. Experience with community platforms, CRM tools, and analytics software is a plus.

  • Passion for Innovation

    • A passion for technology, innovation, and AI. An ability to stay ahead of industry trends and understand the evolving needs of our community.
